About Bobbin Sewing Threads
Sewing machines use two separate bobbin threads to sew! A top-stitch comes from the spool on top and a bottom-stitch that comes from the bobbin. All machines come with bobbin winders. So, you have the option of a prewound bobbin thread or winding your own bobbin sewing thread.
Prewound bobbins come in sizes that are called styles, they are designed to fit specific types of bobbin cases for your machine. Bobbin thread size and type are important considerations when selecting bobbins. As the thread thickness increases the amount of thread on a bobbin decreases.
In most cases you will use either a polyester or nylon bobbin thread. Both bobbin sewing threads have a similar look, feel and strength. However, it is important, and recommended, that polyester bobbin thread be used on anything that will stay outdoors because of the superior sunlight (UV) and mildew resistance that polyester provides.
